18th June Meeting Summary
19-June-09

Outcome of our June Meeting

The meeting was held in the Station pub and was well attended with around 15 present.

The meeting was declared an AGM and officers were voted in: Richard Haigh to remain Chairman, Ian Fairclough to remain Treasurer. There were no aplicants for the post of Secretary.

It was decided to attend the Police Engagement meetings (quaterly) in place of our own meetings. This will stop duplication of effort. Next meeting 28th July, 19:30 in the Pavillion.

Following this meeting we will produce another newsletter.

Crime is down massively year-on-year, 120 crimes last year, 69 this year. However, theft from cars is still unusually high in Knebworth.

The Police continue to post letters on cars warning of the thefts and are also performing house security checks by appointment - if you want one contact Debbie.

A reminder that if you want to talk to our PCSO 'Deborah Sinclaire' or PC 'Keith Harding' you can get them on this number: 01707 354192.

This means the chances of you recovering any stolen item are greatly increased as the Police can prove ownership and track you from the item's markings. Here are some of your options:

Comet Newspaper
10-APR-08

Comet covers KNW signs

The Comet published a small article on the new KNW signs that are going up around the village.

Warning signs to criminals 16:49 - 08 April 2008.
SIGNS are being put up all over a village to make criminals think twice. The 40 signs are being installed by the Knebworth Neighbour-hood Watch scheme on lampposts as a visual deterrent to criminals. Neighbourhood Watch chairman Richard Haigh, 30, said: "After a whole year of effort and incredible bureaucracy we have finally taken delivery of new Neighbour-hood Watch signs to go up around the village. "We are about a third of the way through putting them up and have had several residents come out of their houses and voice their support. "The Neighbourhood Watch had become defunct really a few years ago, as many do, but with the introduction of community support officers the police were keen to bring it back and we now have around 30 to 40 members. The police encouraged us to put up these signs as a deterrent, with funding from Knebworth Village Trust and the parish council and support from volunteers." Knebworth PCSO Debbie Sinclair said: "Criminals certainly notice these signs. It puts out a warning to criminals that behaviour is being watched, car number plates will be taken down and police contacted. They are very effective.

Staffed round the clock with provisions for major incidents a team of specialists direct Police resources ranging from individual officers to the force helicopter. The tour lasted for 2 hours and was a fantastic insight into the workings of this modern facility. Our thanks to Sarah Gazzard and Debbie Sinclair for organising this informative event.
